Heaving Point Internal Mass
A design study has been made of a wave energy converter in the form of a heaving buoy reacting against an internal moving mass. Phase control has been obtained by modulating the stiffness of the spring governing the moving mass. Promising results, agreeing closely with linear theory, have been obtained with two shapes of buoy. Mean annual captures of the order of 2OOW/tonne in a typical South U...
متن کاملRadiation of water waves by a heaving submerged horizontal disc
A thin rigid plate is submerged beneath the free surface of deep water. The plate performs small-amplitude oscillations. The problem of calculating the radiated waves can be reduced to solving a hypersingular boundary integral equation. In the special case of a horizontal circular plate, this equation can be reduced further to onedimensional Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. If th...
متن کاملFluorine in Chinese Coals
Three hundred and five coal samples were taken from the main coal mines of twenty-six provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities of China. The method of pyrohydrolysis was applied to measure the fluorine content in the samples, which exhibit logarithmic normal frequency distributions. The range of fluorine content in dry coal varies from 25 to 1230 mg/ kg with a geometric mean of 136 mg/...
متن کاملVortex patterns generated by a heaving flexible plate
We present dye visualizations of the wake behind a flexible plate flow when its leading edge is forced into harmonic heave motion. We show that, when the forcing amplitude is sufficiently large, a reverse Bénard-von Kármán vortex street is formed in the wake, indicative of the production of positive thrust.
متن کاملArsenic concentrations in Chinese coals.
The arsenic concentrations in 297 coal samples were collected from the main coal-mines of 26 provinces in China were determined by molybdenum blue coloration method. These samples were collected from coals that vary widely in coal rank and coal-forming periods from the five main coal-bearing regions in China. Arsenic content in Chinese coals range between 0.24 to 71 mg/kg. The mean of the conce...
